Pastis

This meal was not meant to celebrate the valentine's day. We did a groupon deal and I'm glad we did. Just thought it was cheap for a 4 courses meal for 2 that costs only RM62. Most of the dishes is not in the normal menu, so I didn't know what the original price was....

A tasty cream of mushroom soup. Serve hot with warm crusty bread. Hmmmm...

Cream of  Mushroom Soup-RM15.90

Tuscany Tomato Soup

Both the appetizer was not not bad. Prawn cocktail very refreshing while pandan chicken as good as some other Thai restaurant's version of pandan chicken.

For mains, the food was bog standard in general. I had grilled salmon fillet accompanied by some side dishes. It was just above average.

The chicken is stuffed with spinach made it a healthier meal.

Chicken breast with mushroom risotto

I was immensely satisfied with trio creme brulee. All three creme brulees were made well. The flavors were deliciously rich, quality was smooth and the flavours are great. The sugar layer on top was made by pouring a lot of sugar on top and torch it for that caramelized effect on top. That's great since it doesn't interfere with the eggy goodness but still adds some crunch.

Panna cotta has a wonderful rich flavor, creamy and silky smooth texture

WATAMI

How well did your valentine's day plans go?
For most women, valentine's day  is a big deal while for some romance is at odds with commercial images of red roses and chocolate. The candles on the table will set you back at least twice what you usually pay. I don't mind getting flowers from anyone, but I would be very open to getting something else, something that will last all year...HAHA I don't mind if you call me material girl.
Find out what she/he likes and think about what is important to both of you, you don't have to spend a lot of money to be romantic. Romance is about the simple things like going for coffee together every morning.

Nothing says "I Love You" better

I didn't make any advance plans on valentine's day until the very last minutes... I headed to 1 utama, instead of clamouring for a spot at top restaurant, we had our unplanned yet bountiful dinner at WATAMI, a japanese casual restaurant. They offer a la carte selection and set menu for 2 from RM40++ onwards per person. We ordered the RM100 set which is ~ RM50 cheaper than a la carte.
The food was absolutely delicious and this was the most extravagant meal I've ever eaten.
I was stuffed by the 3rd course, so I'm not quite sure how I managed to sit through the other dishes.

San Terri cottage

I went to Hartamas shopping centre last weekend and to my surprise, there is a quaint girly little cafe located in this building. Peoples just quietly reading or chatting in low voices. I like the calm atmosphere that is hard to find in the city. It was already late afternoon, so I ordered hot coco and a slice of opera cake. The opera cake was not moist enough, but still above average. The only thing I dislike is the coco was served in a mug that I can simply get from everybody's home. They should put more effort into this.. It doesn't match the ambiance at all.

Opera cake (RM7.00)

Hot coco (RM7.50)

The prices of the pastry and beverage are reasonable and tax free. Overall the experience was good, but it definitely isn't a place to get a meal.

Poon choi @ Restaurant LYJ (Lee Yong Jee)

Poon choi/ pun choi also known as Big bowl feast, is a traditional type of dish originating from Hong Kong. Poon choi composed of many layers of different ingredient such as pork, chicken, duck, fish, prawn, abalone, scallop and pigskin. It's often served during special occasion especially during Chinese new year in the past. But now quite a number of restaurants serve it all year round. Restaurant LYJ is a restaurant that serves award winning poon choi  and highly recommended by famous critic.
It should be eaten layer by layer, but impatient diners normally started digging downward after the first layer. It's kinda yucky, 'mat saleh' will definitely hate this.
The RM 428 meal includes poon choi, yee sang, shark-fin soup, chinese waxed meats rice (lap mei fan) and a plate of kailan to compliment the heavy meal.
Every dish was not bad especially the poon choi, the sauce was really delicious. This is the best poon choi I've ever eaten so far.

Oiso traditional cuisine and cafe

Traditional Korean meals are noted for their number of side dishes {banchan} and usually being served with Korean BBQ. My love affair with korean BBQ began from Kung Jung restaurant and it's the best korean meal I had.
Oiso traditional cuisine and cafe is located at the sphere, bangsar south. To my surprise, there are quite a lot of decent restaurant in this building.
There are indoor and outdoor seating area in the restaurant. We opted for outdoor as we could have a great view outside while having our meal.

The best thing I like about oiso is they serve you banchan with any main dish. This was the first time I had the banchan without ordering the BBQ. Personally, I think banchan is good appetizer. The portion of the side dishes was kinda small but they didn't failed to replenish it.. thanks god!
To be honest I'm not a fan of kimchi, but I found their kimchi was not bad, addictively spicy and less pungent.
The grilled mackerel was a bit too dry. The grilled beef meat was more to my liking, it goes well with a bowl white rice. The set was came with soup as well. The pancake tastes not bad but we couldn't finish it as we were too stuffed to eat anymore.

Korean meal must have- kimchi

Spinach salad {Sigeumchi namul}

I'm partial to the Potato salad

Grilled beef meats marinated in soy sauce (RM22.90)

Grilled mackerel fish (RM17.90)

Pancake {pa-jeon} (RM10.90)

Pomegranate & Aloe juice (RM6.90/glass)
